Oracle CEO Steps Down Amid Titanic Shift

I usually don’t write about news, or in this case olds, but in this case the technology is amazing enough to merit mention. As most of the tech world knows, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison stepped down from his post earlier this week, after a 37 year career leading the company to become one of the dominant players in the IT industry. With all of the publicity and commotion that this move made, it had completely overshadowed an even more titanic shift happening in the database world: Oracle’s June launch of its In-Memory Database for 12c.

Debugging .NET Memory Leaks with ANTS Memory Profiler

Memory leaks in .NET can be a challenging problem to both identify and solve. While C and C++ programs make memory management a constant concern during development, C# touts its garbage collector as the end to memory management and an easier way to program. Unfortunately, there are times when the C# garbage collector does not work as expected, resulting in applications that randomly crash after extended use.

Windows Madness – Why Your Operating System Will Always Be Too Slow

Since the first personal computer, both consumers and business users have been complaining about slow speed. A large part of the reason that processing power has regularly doubled every two years, is that the current speed always seems inadequate. It’s not that users’ requirements have been increasing significantly – it’s that due to anti-virus software, poorly written drivers, and unoptimized software, the status quo will always remain “too slow.”
